Time to select finishes, our favorite part!! It has been a lot of hard work up to this point – we found an old indoor pool and will be tearing off a shoddy addition, what’s next? This 5,800 square foot, wild architectural gem will be getting a complete cosmetic overhaul. New lipstick includes hot rolled steel walls, natural finish hardwood floors, floating stairs, walnut cabinets and beautiful tile. I say lipstick, but as an architect, I’m generally not into just recoating bad architecture (in this case, the architecture is inspiring). I feel like our job here is to recognize finishes that are appropriate for the architecture of the house – the quality of space, the views, the adjacencies of the spaces. Our job is to recognize the original intent and to promote successes while erasing failures.
The spaces here are amazing – the way one space communicates with another, the way that one can see through the spaces and the simplicity of the architectural forms. There will be a focus on the beauty of natural materials and how they contrast with the simple, clean lines. The volume of the home’s space will be highlighted with a monochromatic palette (minus the grass cloth, we just can’t). Stay glued to the blog for more to come!
